HA ha ha, You'd think they'd learn by now, with all that lane changing and upsetting other road users they share the road with the AL driver still ends up behind everyone 400 yds later down the road.
Maybe you Cut up the MD of the company you was doing the job for Ian. Member Posts: 910 Joined: Wednesday 20 May 2009, 10:55. That used to be the case several years ago when the cabs all had Perkins diesel engines. They were so slow that the cabbies used to get a bit upset if you got in their way and scrubbed their speed off!! When they got the better powerplants I for one saw a huge improvement in their demeanour, bar their stopping midstreet to pu or drop passengers Then it was the Royal Mail wagons that took up the baton.believe me London bus's even the bendy ones don't even get close to causing the mayhem these vans create, you can hardly mistake them.
Which is why AddyLee now with up to 2400 Galaxy's on the london streets are so prominent with the nice sticker on the rear glass announcing themselves. The drivers of these vehicles work long hours and get inured to the traffic. Bikeys beware, if you see the sticker, play safe take a wide berth. I know not all bikers are the same in London, but it does get me when some pass on the outside then jump swiftly into my braking distance and slam there brakes on,what if one day i could'nt be bothered to brake with them.
Theres alot of inexperianced riders in London taking up the bike in order to beat the jams. Not only have you got to get out of town before the schools,Business commuters you now have to get out before the bike commuters, its like having a swarm of bees chasing you.

You can also search near a city, place, or address instead. A lottery as to the experience that you will receive. I have had as many good experiences with Addison Lee as I have had bad experiences. Many times, I have had a great experience of having a polite, almost chauffeur-like driver arrive early to collect me, and has waited patiently outside, and taken me courteously to my destination.

Many times, I have felt like I got a great deal in comparison to having a black cab for the same journey. However, just as many times, I have had bad experiences, with overpriced bills, drivers with a poor grasp of English getting lost even though they have been relying on their satellite navigation, and then being rude and driving erratically. My last journey cost £22 for a 15 minute trip.
Do your homework, and make sure you know how much a black cab journey will cost, with a driver who has trained on London streets for many many years before he was allowed his license versus the lottery that you play with an Addison Lee cab driver. It really does depend on the journey, but I do believe the Addison Lee has a minimum journey price so many times you can be much better off financially with a black cab, not least the convenience of just being able to hail it on the street. Be careful of stealth charges being added to your bill if you are an account payer.
This is a difficult decision for me, regarding how many stars to give this company. I truly have had five star service from them for a very reasonable price. However just as many times, I have had one star service that has left me questioning whether I ever want to use them again. Use at your own risk and decide whether they fit into your life. Oh how the mighty have fallen. This is the first time I've bumped a business from a 5 star to a 1 star and I'm not doing it lightly. I've had a spate of really bad service from them which has prompted this review and I won't be using them again.
Firstly - 'wait charges'. They add these onto your bill without any warning so if you're paying by card for Gawd sake check your statement thoroughly for these not-so-little add ons. At one point they charged JB a wait fee when the box was delivered to my house and I personally walked out to the car to collect it from the boot.
There was no wait whatsoever only JB wasn't there to witness that so they stuck on a fee. Second - the aggressive drivers. I've had a driver not give way on a single-lane road to an oncoming car and instead of reverse, as he should have done, he drove up the pavement. I've had a driver actually shout and swear at other drivers - when it was HIS fault - repeatedly during one journey (always apologising afterwards but then picking another fight within minutes). It was the most frightening and intimidating journey ever. The same driver ignored me when I told him to take a left, got annoyed with me and spun a u-turn into oncoming traffic on a really busy road and then had the cheek to tell the driver who beeped him to f-off.
City Of Addison Jobs
Lastly - get some frickin' drivers who KNOW LONDON! Half of them are relying far too heavily on sat navs for the simplest of journeys - I don't expect you to know every road in London but I do expect a basic knowledge from someone who is paid to drive them every day.
And please hire some drivers who understand the rules of the road - throwing a u-turn on a busy road into fast oncoming traffic is not ok. Swearing at other drivers is not ok. Addison Lee - SORT.
'Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light.' - Yogi Bhajan I now define 'light' as being able to move the entirety of your possessions in one or two trips via Addison Lee minicab. This weekend I moved from Kensington to Clerkenwell in two trips but looking back, I think I could've done it in one.
Addison Lee is right on, let me count the ways: - They've got my information stored in their system so I simply recite my mobile and they know me. You can prepay your journey so there are no surprises when you arrive at your destination. They arrive earlier than they say they will. They quote you seven minutes, they arrive in three. When the driver arrives, you get a text.
The drivers are always professional and nice. Last night, I somehow got locked INSIDE my flat (you have to live in the UK to understand how such a thing could occur) and I hollered to the driver. Nice guy that he was, he caught the keys I tossed him from the window and came and unlocked my front door so I could escape. I think that pretty much sums up why Addison Lee is my transporter of choice! I actually witnessed an Addison Lee driver purposefully bump a cyclist who was minding his own business, waiting for the light to change. The driver incorrectly thought if he wasn't at the front of the queue that the light wouldn't change and therefore thought he could just bully the cyclist out of the way.
The driver got out of his car aggressively. Much yelling ensued. It was abhorrent. Addison Lee drivers are some of the worst I encounter on London streets. Rude, inconsiderate, slightly unhinged, intolerant of other road users and - above all - dangerous. This was partially my fault, since I called him a fucking cuntbag. Now, I am a lover, not a hater but Addison Lee makes my blood boil.
Their drivers appear to believe that they are above the law, paying little or no regard to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in their desperate attempt to get to their next job on time. Indicating, stopping at zebra crossings and driving with common courtesy are all irrelevant to the Addison Lee driver. It is not as if they are cheap - far from it - in my experience almost every other minicab will do the same journey for less. Consequently their ongoing popularity mystifies me. I can only assume that if you advertise enough (their Ford MPVs are everywhere) the people will come. However, for me, the sooner Addison Lee disappears the better.
Hopefully this review is a step in that direction. When getting into a dodgy minivan seems a safer bet than a much vaunted 'registered' mini-cab, you know something is wrong.oh so very wrong. My first (and most definitely last) experience with this hellhole of a cab company was when we booked one to ferry me, my housemate, and a couple of boxes across Tower Bridge. I literally mean across the bridge as we lived on Bermondsey Square and our destination was next to Tower Gateway. Okay, so maybe that's a fee for the boxes or perhaps traffic is bad. It seems steep but if you don't have anything to compare it to, how can you tell? Well, if you do the exact same trip in reverse in a Black Cab, you'd expect to have to pay more, yes?
We flagged one down for the return tip and the fare was an astounding £8. WTF Addison Lee? How can you justify being almost twice the cost of a Black Cab?
My second run-in (and I mean that literally) was when I was cycling up a hill and an Addison Lee van decide to overtake another car on the left side where I was. The sideview mirror of said van sent me spinning into the grass, luckily unhurt, but slightly in shock.
And from reading the reviews, it seems I'm not the only one who has had a close call. Epic fail Addison Lee.
Oh and finally, tell your CEO to get his facts straight. There is no road tax anymore.it's an emissions tax. Which cycles are charged since they have ZERO EMISSIONS. I understand it may be a foreign concept to a man who claims he'd never get on a bike but surely that's common sense? I was considering UBER but used Addison Lee today based on Yelp and had a pleasant experience.
We decided not to use UBER because we wanted to arrange for a large enough car for our luggage. We called AL to book a car to take us from our hotel in South Kensington to St. Pancras International. The dispatcher arranged for a Ford Galaxy since we had 4 people + luggage and quoted 18 pounds. We were promptly picked up in 15 mins. The system automatically texted us when the driver was on his way as well as when he arrived.
The driver was courtous and professional. He drove smoothly and did not break any rules. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would highly recommend. More like Addison Fee!
I travel around London A LOT and sometime I have to lug big boxes and bags of stuff, so I need the help of a friendly taxi service. Friendly they may be, but fair is rather questionable when it comes to fares. On more than one occasion, I have had extra waiting time added to my credit card.
Which I would have no problem with. If there had actually been extra waiting time, and not some fictitious, parallel universe made up time that never occurred.
It makes me wonder just how many other people they doing it to - imagining additional times that just never existed. Well actually that's not strictly true. One of the incidents in question, I had to move about 6 boxes from inside Olympia all the way out past the car pack, onto the street where the driver sat waiting. All by myself note and this did take some time, time that I was charged for! What the heck? Am I suppose to magic them into the van? And they have the audacity to tell me I can't speak to anybody, but that I have to waste my time, email my query.
I should charge them for my time! There are three things I want to leave you with. 1) If you pay by card, make sure you check your statements. 2) If necessary make them do a full investigation. 3) Tell them you're writing it on here! 'This is the one number any girl moving to London needs' So intoned my sister when I moved back from the relatively safe-haven country village of Bristol (hahaha) back to London when I finished university. Well, I must admit Addison Lee has got me out a quite a few tight spots at 5am in the morning in the well, less so reputable parts of London when I couldn't get a taxi anywhere and it is always reassuring that they make sure you get back into the house before they leave.
In the old days they sucked a bit coz they didn't do advanced cash booking; but now that they do, I'll probably use them more at night just for the sake of not waiting. They cost £1.30 more than liberty from old street to my house and I am pretty sure they will go on the westway, so I'd say that £1.30 well spent, as much as I LOVE Rainbow cabs) Yes, they are more expensive than other mini cabs, but their cars are always clean and looks like they won't break down mid journey, drivers courteous (and pretty sure they won't rape you) and the whole texting they are here thing is super duper useful. Now, if only they didn't try to charge me £90 to go from green park to heathrow on boxing day, I'll probably give them a 5. And yes, the tube only cost me like £4 quid in the end. So in conclusion, Yes. Addison Lee's number is probably the most useful thing a single girl in London should have on her phone.
If they only will do an iphone app as well and life will be just swell. I feel like Addison Lee are old, reliable friends of mine.
I've used them for everything imaginable, from rides to and from work to chauffeur driven cars for parties, oh and for a few drunken night time rides home in between. They are super efficient, txting you when they're on the way and again when they're waiting outside your house. I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes for a car and I've often kept them waiting after work, which of course does cost, but they've never, ever complained. The cars are all super polished and clean inside whilst the drivers are friendly and helpful (I once moved house and loaded up a pile of junk into one of their estate cars with the help of Barry) and most importantly they know exactly how to do a great job, which for me often means knowing when to cut the small talk and let me snooze in the back.
Plus they're much cheaper than black cabs whose meter will often run you up an extortionate bill for a much shoddier service. AL are so fantastic that I wont use anyone else.
These guys should be on speed dial in your phone too. Imagine you're in London during a tube strike. The buses are jammed and the taxi queue at Paddington is 1200 strong and growing.
How ever will you get across town? In comes Addison Lee to the rescue!
The driver was prompt and polite. He got me quickly across central London while circumnavigating the chaos and ridiculous traffic caused by the tube strike. What I like most about Addison Lee is that they send you a text msg when they are en route with an estimate of their arrival time and then follow-up with another text when they arrive. Highly recommend this mini-cab service! UPDATE on June 27, 2014. I received a short e-mail and refund from Addison Lee. It was pretty much a 'canned response'.
I give them the 4 stars for performing good service and doing the right thing. They don't get the 5er because it was a form letter type response and took 10 days. But their app was great and there service overall was good.I started out as a believer! Loved the app and found the fixed price option to be extremely helpful with the traffic in London. I became soured by Addison Lee when a large, unannounced 'waiting fee' showed up in my in-box 2 days after our last ride.
I have sent two e-mails registering a complaint and neither has been answered. My greatest frustration was not in the fee or even in the amount, but that it was completely unwarranted. We waited for the damn driver, not vice versa.
When we called him, he finally, said you need to walk an extra block to come meet me due to traffic. Poor service and poor follow-up.
That's really too bad, because I thought the app was brilliant. As an aside, we used Uber on our next trip and also in Paris and found it to be excellent. I don't understand all the negative reviews?!? It is the only car company that I would ever think of using. The prices are confirmed beforehand, so it doesn't matter if there is traffic (unlike black cabs where the meter keeps going even if the car is stationary) and the cars are always clean and executive looking (unlike local minicabs). I have only given it 4 out of 5 because their prices are fixed at something like £13 (this figure could be wrong but it's def over £10) so I think you're over-charged if you take very short journeys, in which case I would opt for a black cab! Addison Lee is my default taxi (mini cab) service to think of when I decide to take one (and have the mind to make a booking).
I booked them through phone and website for so many times and I found their booking system very reliable. However, I did not find their iphone app very useful yet.
Their cars are big and clean and they have very decent and relaxed drivers too. Well, I'm saying that because I usually order big cars that can fit my whole tribe:D and the drivers are flexible and they never complain about anything you suggest (you know what I mean) The only things you need to consider here is, for short trips, and late night rides you might find the black cab cheaper than Addison Lee. But remember that A.L will come right in front of your door while you need to wait for a while to get the black cab. Another thing, during public transport strikes, you need to book your car days before the strike. Otherwise there is no chance to get a car. 26/4/12 From the Guardian about Addison Lee cabs; 'A London minicab firm that urged its drivers to defy a ban on using bus lanes has been restrained by the high court.
Mr Justice Eder granted an injunction to prevent Addison Lee from instructing its drivers to use bus lanes marked for use by black taxis during the hours when restrictions apply. Following an application by Transport for London, he also instructed the private hire company not to repeat an offer to pay its drivers' fines or other penalties.
The company agreed to remove a statement from its website exhorting its drivers to disobey the law.' Addison lee provides a much more cost effective, professional and personal than any other London black cabs can offer. You can either book online and instantly get a quote or call them, then you are updated by texts when you driver is on his way and when they have arrived.
The cars are always clean and looking brand new and there is always a newspaper for you to read. The drivers themselves are always polite and chatty which is a bonus. A main advantage is that they are far cheaper than black cabs except Ive found there roughly the same on airport/rail jobs. Nevertheless, Choose Addison lee for a friendly, professional and clean! Cab in the future. Also if you have the cash they offer Chauffeur driven services for an extra £10 or so. Let's face it, there are few things more enjoyable than waking up at 4:45am, packing and waiting for a ride to the airport.
I think it measures right up there with being doused with ice cold water in the dead of winter or perhaps having your fingernails ripped off one by one. Can you tell I'm not a morning person? Anyhoo, as rough as this ritual is, thanks to the drivers and the convenience and ease of the Addison Lee experience, I arrived at the airport on time and in a good mood.
That is amazing considering it was 6am. The driver was super friendly and tried to make conversation even though I was sick, tired and blowing my nose the whole way. (Hot, huh?) It was super simple to reserve the car the night before and they even text you when the car is on its way and then text you again when they are downstairs which I thought was rather nice considering the early hour and my hopes of not waking up my flat mate with a loud phone ring. I will definitely be using Addison Lee again for any scheduled journey.
A manager at Addison Lee has been filmed refusing a courier a job because he took another firm to court over workers’ rights, in the latest controversy to hit the “gig economy”. Andrew Boxer, 60, had already been offered a job at the taxi giant’s courier arm when staff discovered he had won a separate legal battle over paid holidays and minimum wage. The courier started recording the exchange at Addison Lee’s offices after being questioned over the case during his induction in November. Read more: Video by Matt Murphy.
Addison Lee hopes to set higher standards new drivers with the launch of an Addison Lee Diploma qualification Thirty-five of the company’s recruits have already received the Diploma, which is offered to selected graduates of the Addison Lee Knowledge School. Addison Lee chairman John Griffin claims the qualification is the first of its kind in the private hire industry.
The award provides recognition to the best private hire drivers in London, while improving driver knowledge and understanding of routes in London. Designed to provide a range of advanced driving skills, the Diploma teaches and trains drivers in vital areas such as customer service, cycle safety, driving technique and first aid, as well as efficient driving techniques to lower fuel costs and the fleet’s carbon footprint. Additionally, as part of a programme of recruiting talented drivers, Addison Lee has extended its driver training programme to job seekers in a pilot project with the Stockwell and Streatham branches of Jobcentre Plus. The new programme will give long-term unemployed individuals the qualifications needed to move into the Addison Lee Knowledge School with the aim of securing a job with Addison Lee.
Jobseekers have access to a four-week level 2 qualification accredited by EDI entitled ‘Introduction to the role of the professional minicab driver’, which is designed to give participants the basic knowledge required to apply for a PCO license and enter the Addison Lee Knowledge Course. John Griffin said: “I am a firm believer in the Big Society, and our partnership with Jobcentre Plus is just one part of how Addison Lee continues to give something back to London. It’s encouraging to see the long-term unemployed taking part in our scheme and we’re very proud of this new initiative.” So far 13 Jobcentre Plus candidates have completed the first stage of their qualification, and a second batch started on the four-week course last monthy, with the next group starting in 12 weeks’ time. The Addison Lee Diploma is made up of three modules comprising: Bronze: Customer Service, Conflict Management and Cyclist Awareness training, which is delivered by qualified cyclist trainers accredited by Cycle UK Silver: Defensive Driving knowledge skills and practical driving techniques. Gold: Emergency first aid externally accredited by the HSC All trainers who deliver the training at Addison Lee are experts in the relevant occupational areas and are qualified to the level of PTLLS (Preparing to teach in the Life Long Learning Sector Level 4) DTLLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector Level 5) and Assessor (Certificate in Assessing Vocational Competence Level 3).
